I picked this game up a few years ago for a fun way to practice my Japanese, but I never finished it as I eventually got too tired of reading all the text (my Japanese reading speed was really slow). I'd watched Cryaotic's stream of the game several times though, so I already knew the story and liked it. That's was why I chose it for language practice in the first place — I didn't have to worry about missing out on things I didn't understand.
Anyway, I picked it up again earlier this week and I'm having fun. It's a good, easy way to destress a bit, which I'm definitely going to need in the foreseeable future. I'd forgotten the details of the story and the gameplay, so I decided to start over from the beginning. I'm having a much easier time of it this time since my Japanese has improved a lot, so I might get to the end this time. The game is pretty long, but it's easy fun (said as someone who has played Elden Ring for around 300 hours, haha).
The game is good overall, but I think my favourite part is the world and design. It really feels like going on an action adventure through a strange and cool, and often very pretty world. The story and developments are also really well done; the gradual build-ups and reveals about the characters and the world feel really satisfying. The mystery of the Monado is compelling from beginning to end. All in all, the game is a great JRPG.
I also have some other games I've been meaning to finish, but those require more effort, and this way I'm getting some nice Japanese practice as well.
